Among Yuyans brothers, there were a total of 12 given last names. These are considered as the oldest last names in China. During Zhou Dynasty, the Ren name was further divided into 10 other last names, including Xie, Zhang, Xue, Xu, Lu, Shu, Zhong, Quan, Guo. Although the Ren last name has a long history, its not a well-known name, because the ancient Ren kingdom was very weak. Others believed that the Ren last name came from Feng, the descendents of Xiao Hao. Feng was awarded the duke of Ren (Qining of Shandong), and later changed their names to Ren.
