time, the Chong tribe, who were the predecessors of the Xia tribe roams around the Song Mountain
in Henan. Its leader Chong Boxi assisted Yu Shun in combating the flood. After Boxis death,
his son, Yu, took over the assignment. During the 13 year he fought the flood, he passed the
porch of his house three times and did not pay a visit. Due to his achievement, Yu Shun gave
Xia Yu his throne, before he died. Xia Yu made Yangcheng his capital, before moving to Yangyao
(Yu Zhou in Henan). The Xia Dynasty lasted for more than 400 years
and was brought to an end by the Shang Dynasty in 1,783 B.C.
After this, the people of Xia, made Xia their last name. (Xia means summer).
