There are two main origins of this last name. 1)The ancient king
Huang Di defeated a neighboring tribe and moved them to Zoutu, and they were known as the
Zoutus. Later, these people split into two groups with the last names of Zou and Tu.
2)During Zhou Dynasty, Cao Jia, the descendent of ancient
king Zhuan Xu, was made the duke of Zhu Lou (Zou in Shandong).
During Chun Qiu, Zhu Lou was a small kingdom under the
protection of Lu. The duke of Lu, simplified the name of Zhu Lou into Zou. The kingdom of
Zou was destroyed by Chu, and its people began to bear the last name Zou.
